The effect of ultraviolet irradiation on the viability of entomopathogenic fungus, Lecanicillium (=Verticillium) lecanii (Zimmerman) Zare and Gams was studied under laboratory conditions at Biocontrol Research Laboratory of Entomology, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Maharashtra during 2002-04. The liquid formulation of L. lecanii with different adjuvants, viz., glycerol, Tween-80, Triton-x-100, boric acid, indigo, milk, turmeric and arachid oil were exposed to UV light for different exposure periods of 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 min. The distance between exposed suspension and UV light source was 0.3 m. The UV rays proved detrimental to the growth and development of L. lecanii. The detrimental effect increased with increase in exposure period. However, glycerol, boric acid and Tween-80 gave good UV protection to L. lecanii, while milk, turmeric and indigo lack the UV protectability. Keywords

Effect of some adjuvant combinations on the growth of Verticillium lecanii (Zimmermann) Viegas in culture medium and the subsequent infection of Maconellicoccus hirsutus (Green) were evaluated at Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, Maharashtra, during 2002-04. The treatment including V. l. + glycerol (8%) + Tween 80 (1%) + arachid oil (5%) proved to be the most promising, recording maximum surface coverage (92.00%) and biomass (32.10g) at 10 days of inoculation and bioefficacy at 14 days. However, it was on par with the formulations containing V. l. + glycerol 5% + Tween 80 1% + arachid oil 2% and V. l. + glycerol 2% + Tween 80 1% + arachid oil 0.5%. In terms of viability and virulence, V. l. + glycerol 2% + Tween 80 1% + arachid oil 0.5% and V. l. + glycerol 5% + Tween 80 1% + arachid oil 2% emerged as the best combinations. Keywords

Liquid formulations of entomopathogenic fungus, Verticillium lecanii (Zimmermann) Viegas were evaluated against spiralling whitefly, Aleurodicus dispersus Russell at Biocontrol Research Laboratory, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, during 2002-04. The study revealed that liquid formulation A (VGTA 50512) and B (VGTA 50510-5) of V. lecanii caused 78.33 to 92.34 and 80.20 to 93.45 per cent mortality of the whitefly, respectively. V. lecanii at one per cent concentration gave the highest mortality of 92.34 per cent (Formulation A) and 93.45 per cent (Formulation B) respectively but it was on par with the concentration of 0.45 to 0.75 per cent. So, 0.45 per cent concentration of the liquid formulation is the most economical and feasible concentration for the control of the pest. Keywords
